I was listening to The Marketing Millenials podcast, and copywriter Katie Momo said something that really stuck with me.

She said, “The best copy is not written. It is found.

And after a long time, I felt my perspective shifting yet again.

I’m a big fan of “the best copy is not written but assembled.”

And what Katie said simply takes it one step further.

Because time & time again, I’ve seen that customer research including:

-Review mining
-1:1 interviews
-Case studies

Helps you learn more about the real reason people buy.

That’s where the crux of your copy lies. This customer research is actually the base layer—the MAIN angle.

Above this layer, you have:

-The hook
-The frameworks
-The psychological triggers
-The real offer
-The risk-free guarantee

And all that jazz.

But if the fundamentals aren’t strong, no matter how irresistible your product or offer is, people aren’t pulling out their credit cards.

You cannot sell a dozen apples to someone looking for apple juice to refresh himself instantly.

It doesn’t matter if this was an apples-to-apples comparison.

If the purpose of your copy doesn’t match customer intent, say bye-bye to sales.

Do you think this is true?
