I’ve had great parties surrounded by my loved ones on my birthdays.
It’s a great experience, and I’ve adored every second of it.
But this year, I wanted to try something new, and so I did…👇🏻
I packed my bags and went on a solo trip.
From hosting house parties with 20+ people to anxiously protecting my luggage from a supposedly evil world, 4 days of travel on my own was worth it.
Here’s how it shaped my perspective:
1. Meeting new people is always a revelation
You might be scared to venture out alone, but as you meet new people, you don’t just meet new bodies. You meet new souls. New perspectives & new mindsets.
It can shape you in ways you’ve never imagined before.
2. Solo trips are the perfect occasion for a social media detox
I did client work but did not want to create personal content. That’s why I only posted travel-related real-time stuff(on Twitter), and it made me feel so much more spontaneous.
Just like social media should be(every once in a while).
I figured that strategies are sexy, but sometimes, spontaneity is sexier. You can plan for the world, but there’s nothing like a heartfelt post from the moment.
3. Spend quality time with yourself
It’s almost effortless to get lost in the trap of escaping loneliness with activity or surrounding yourself with people.
But this solo trip also taught me the value of alone time. Everyone should take out time to be spent alone. With yourself. Only yourself.
Be it doing something you love or just simply indulging in your thoughts. I had a ball of a time with newfound friendships on the trip, but I used to return to my dorm every night no matter how late and watch a movie.
I love watching movies, that’s why. Even when I was in a place with so much room for exploration.
I took myself out on a date, so why not spend it doing something I absolutely love, right?
I hope anyone who reads this goes traveling by themselves at least once. Not for the trend or craze but to discover something about themselves.
Worst case scenario-you’ll hate it and never do it again. But best case-Oh! There are so many for you to discover…
Why not start now?
